Saturday, October 10 - Ed & Marsha in Ed's '55, Butch & Sissy in Reddawg '57, John & Janet in their '57 BelAir, Marvin & Linda in their '55 and Jim & Linda in their '57 wagon left the Mount Airy Burger King pretty promptly at 7:30 am and met up with Chris & Michelle in their '55 pickup and Frank & Alice in their everday driver along Route 32. Although the day was overcast, the temperature was pleasant for driving and we proceeded across the Bay Bridge and stopped at the 30/301 outlet malls to deliver the Alzheimers Assoication raffle Wii prize to the Guidos of Queenstown. Mr. Guido met us at the outlet malls in his '64 Chevy and it turns out they are members of Kent Island Cruisers and purchased the ticket at the Frederick Flea Market last March, so it was one of the first tickets sold. So we really really shook that bucket well and mixed up the tickets! After delivering the Wii, we drove to Bridgeville, DE for the Apple Scrapple Festival where we got to shop for crafts and neat stuff and see a lot of nice, different cars and trucks. We were amazed by the number of '56 Chevys - one of which was a For Sale for $70,000! There were 226 registered vehicles (and many more that didn't bother to register). Congratulations to Butch & Sissy who won a Top 50 Award with Reddawg! For dinner, we went to Jimmys Grill in Bridgeville and stayed the night in Seaford, DE. Sunday morning was a beautiful day for a drive, and after a nice breakfast at IHOP, Frank & Alice left to spend the day with friends in OC and Marvin & Linda headed home.
The rest of us took a leisurely drive up to Lewes, DE to investigate for a possible Spring or Fall Cruise. We watched the Lewes-Cape May Ferry arrive, and watched as about 100 cars, trucks, motorcycles and rv's were driven off the ferry with precision timing. Then we watched as about 100 cars, trucks, motorcycles and rv's were driven onto the ferry for the trip to Cape May. John timed it, and the whole thing took only about 20 minutes and was cool to watch. Some of the vehicles making the trip to Cape May were rods coming from the Ocean City Rod Run. We decided this would be a really neat thing to do for one of our cruises.
After watching the ferry, we briefly drove around Lewes, then headed towards home, stopping at Holly's for lunch/dinner. It was a great trip, very nice and relaxing and ~ fortunately!!! ~ no car problems on the trip!
BYE! See you on the next Fall Cruise |
