Annual Alzheimer’s Benefit Show a Great Success!

The 28th Annual Car and Truck Show to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter, hosted by the Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club is now “in the books”.  On September 19, 2021, approximately 260 vehicles came out to the Frederick MVA to celebrate the great work done by the Alzheimer’s Association on behalf of the families, caretakers, and friends of people suffering from this disease.

Under partly cloudy skies and cool temperatures, our guests enjoyed the live auction; bid on beautiful raffle baskets, donated by the ladies and friends of the club; and took chances on the 50/50 raffles.
Thanks to the generosity of our show sponsors, donors and show participants, HMCCC will be making another significant donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter that will boost the total donation made to the association to well over $675,000.

This year’s awards ceremony had some poignant moments.  Julie Thompson and her family presented the first annual Richard Thompson Memorial Award.  Richard was the Vice President of HMCCC who passed away earlier this summer.   The Zimmerman Family award was presented in memory of Barb Zimmerman, long time club member and friend who also passed this summer.  David McShea, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter and Alzheimer’s volunteers selected a beautiful 1957 Chevy Convertible for the Alzheimer’s Choice award.  I talked to the lady who won the award and she stated that she had lost her mother to Alzheimer’s just a couple of weeks before the show.  She was thrilled and honored to have received the award.

To present a show of this magnitude requires not only hard work, but the willingness of club members and volunteers to help.  A BIG thank you is extended not only to the HMCCC members, but to the Alzheimer’s volunteers who helped make this show a great success.  We are very appreciative of all the help these volunteers provided and hope the Alzheimer’s volunteers will be an important part of our show next year.

Speaking of next year, mark your calendars for the 29th Annual Car and Truck Show on September 18, 2022.  Watch the website for more information about the show and other upcoming events for the Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club.
